Pond Contractors in Devon & Cornwall

wave

Specialist pond builders and contractors across Devon and Cornwall

Pond construction for sites where design, water and landscape all matter

A successful pond needs more than excavation and a liner. Ground conditions, water sources, levels, access, spoil, overflow routes, planting and long-term maintenance all influence whether the finished waterbody works as intended.

SAS Aquatics provides practical design-and-build support for private owners, landowners, farms, estates and organisations. Our core work includes substantial wildlife ponds, pond restoration, wetland creation, lakes and larger ponds, and natural or hybrid swimming ponds.

Where a specialist pond contractor adds value

Larger or more complex projects usually involve decisions that affect one another. A change in depth alters excavation volumes; the source and route of water influence overflow design; access affects machinery and material handling; and the choice of waterproofing depends on the soil, shape and intended use.

How we develop a project

1. Initial information

We start with the location, approximate dimensions, photographs, access details and what you want the water to achieve. This helps us judge whether the project fits our work and identify the most useful next step.

2. Site assessment and concept

Where a site visit or design input is needed, we agree the scope and fee in advance. The assessment can cover levels, water, access, soil, existing habitats, construction approach and any specialist advice or permissions that may be required.

3. Detailed scope and quotation

The proposal sets out the intended result, main work stages, materials, plant requirements, exclusions and payment structure. Larger schemes may be divided into phases so the work remains practical and commercially clear.

4. Construction and establishment

We coordinate the aquatic work with suitable plant operators, groundworkers and other specialists where needed. The final stage includes planting, habitat details, commissioning and guidance for the first seasons of establishment.

Costs and commercial clarity

Pond construction costs vary widely because access, excavation, depth, waterproofing, stone, planting, water treatment and material movement can change the job significantly. Our pond-building cost guide explains the main price drivers and gives useful starting ranges for different project types.

For a real project, we review the site information first and then recommend the appropriate level of survey, design or site visit. This avoids pretending a dependable construction price can be produced from dimensions alone.

Frequently asked questions

Do you only work in Devon and Cornwall?

Devon and Cornwall are our core areas. We also consider selected larger or specialist projects elsewhere in the South West where the scope justifies the additional mobilisation.

Do you offer a full design-and-build service?

Yes, where that is the right route for the project. We can take suitable schemes from initial assessment through design development, construction, planting and establishment. We also work alongside ecologists, landscape professionals and other contractors.

Can you restore an existing pond instead of rebuilding it?

Often, yes. We first identify what is actually failing—such as accumulated silt, water loss, poor margins, damaged structures, overgrowth or unsuitable circulation—then develop a proportionate restoration plan.

Can you advise on planning, ecology and consents?

We can flag likely considerations and build them into the project process. Where formal ecological, planning, engineering or regulatory input is required, we can work with the client’s advisers or suitable specialists.

How do I get an initial indication of cost?

Send the project location, approximate dimensions, photographs, access information and your main objectives through the enquiry page. If the site looks suitable, we can explain whether an initial estimate, paid site visit or design stage is the best next step.

Discuss your pond, wetland or swimming-pond project

Tell us where the site is, the approximate scale and what you want the water to achieve. Photographs, videos and plans are useful if available.
