About us
Creating Wildlife Ponds, Wetlands & Natural Water Landscapes Across Devon & Cornwall
SAS Aquatics specialises in the design, construction, restoration and management of wildlife ponds, wetlands and natural swimming ponds throughout Devon and Cornwall.
From small garden ponds to large estate lakes, habitat creation projects and natural swimming ponds, we help landowners, homeowners, farms, estates and conservation organisations create water features that are both beautiful and ecologically valuable.
Our work combines practical construction experience with a strong understanding of aquatic ecosystems, hydrology and habitat creation. Every project is designed to function naturally, support wildlife and sit comfortably within the surrounding landscape.
Our Approach
Many ponds look attractive when first built but quickly become difficult to manage because they have not been designed with long-term ecological function in mind.
We take a different approach.
Rather than simply digging a hole and filling it with water, we consider:
- Water sources and hydrology
- Soil conditions
- Wildlife value
- Long-term maintenance requirements
- Natural planting schemes
- Habitat diversity
- Integration with the wider landscape
The result is a pond, wetland or swimming pond that continues to improve over time rather than becoming a problem.
What We Do
Wildlife Pond Construction
We design and build wildlife ponds for gardens, farms, estates and conservation projects. Every pond is tailored to the site and intended to maximise biodiversity while remaining attractive and practical.
Pond Restoration & Leak Repair
Many older ponds suffer from excessive silt accumulation, invasive vegetation, poor water retention or structural failure. We restore ponds while protecting existing wildlife wherever possible.
Wetland Creation & Habitat Enhancement
Wetlands are among the most valuable habitats in the UK. We create and restore wetlands, reedbeds, scrapes and seasonal water features that support a wide range of species.
Natural Swimming Ponds
We design and construct both fully natural and hybrid natural swimming ponds that provide clear water without the appearance of a conventional swimming pool.
Aquatic Planting
We supply and install large-scale aquatic planting schemes using carefully selected native species appropriate to the site and its ecological objectives.
Planning, Grants & Environmental Support
We assist clients with habitat creation proposals, biodiversity enhancement plans, hydrology reports and supporting documents for planning applications and grant-funded projects.
Why Choose SAS Aquatics?
Practical Experience
We are contractors first and foremost. Every recommendation is based on practical experience building and restoring ponds in real-world conditions across Devon and Cornwall.
Wildlife Focused
Ecology is considered throughout every stage of a project. Our aim is always to create habitats that genuinely benefit wildlife rather than simply looking natural.
Bespoke Design
No two sites are the same. Every project is designed around the specific conditions, objectives and budget of the client.
Long-Term Thinking
We prioritise solutions that remain functional, attractive and manageable for years to come.
