Raised Wooden Pond With A Waterfall
A Compact, Stylish Pond Solution for Smaller Gardens
We were asked to design and build a raised wooden pond with a waterfall—the perfect solution for gardens where digging down isn’t possible or space is limited. Raised ponds not only look great but also make fishkeeping more accessible, and when paired with insulation, they’re built to last in all weather conditions.
Project snapshot
Why this project still matters: SAS Aquatics now concentrates primarily on larger wildlife ponds, pond restoration, wetlands and natural swimming ponds. This earlier build remains a useful example of careful water-feature engineering where access, space or excavation is restricted.

Design & Construction
- Timber Frame & Finish
The structure was built using a strong timber frame, finished with feather board cladding and insulated for durability. Inside, ply lining was reinforced with fibreglass for a watertight, crease-free finish. We applied a 450g strand mat, a layer of tissue, and a black topcoat, creating a robust and smooth surface. - Natural Stone Detailing
Locally sourced slate tiles from Mill Hill Quarry were used around the edge for a clean, modern finish. Natural slate was also stacked at one end to form a decorative waterfall feature, adding movement and sound. - Planting
Small feature plants were added to soften the structure and provide greenery around the pond, helping it blend seamlessly into the garden.
Filtration & Equipment
- Evolution Aqua EazyPod Complete filtration system installed, including an air pump and UV clarifier to keep water clear and healthy.
- Twin outdoor electric sockets fitted to safely power the pump and filter.
These professional-grade systems mean the pond requires minimal maintenance, keeping fish in top condition and water crystal-clear.

The Finished Pond
The completed raised pond is compact yet striking—ideal for homeowners wanting a modern feature without major groundworks. With its flowing waterfall, smart slate edging, and professional filtration, the pond is ready to welcome fish and will provide a relaxing focal point in the garden for years to come.
