Crazy Paving Pond

Garden Pond Refurbishment in Tavistock, Devon

This project in Tavistock involved the complete transformation of a tired concrete-lined pond surrounded by old crazy paving. We extended and reshaped the pond, installed a durable EPDM liner, and replaced the outdated edge with natural slate to give it a cleaner, softer look.Twin pump-filter fountains were added to improve water movement and clarity, and new planting zones were created to support wildlife and soften the margins.

Garden Pond Refurbishment in Tavistock, Devon

Transforming a dated crazy paving pond into a modern wildlife-friendly feature

We recently completed a full garden pond refurbishment for a property in Tavistock, Devon. The existing pond, surrounded by ageing crazy paving and suffering from poor water quality, didn’t live up to the high standard of the rest of the garden.

The client wanted to retain the pond’s charm but bring it up to a more natural, functional, and visually appealing standard. The result is a fully re-lined, extended pond with a new natural stone edge, aquatic planting zones, and all-in-one filtration fountains—all blending beautifully into the landscape.

Before: Tired Layout, Poor Water Quality

The old pond had uneven paving, limited space for aquatic planting, and an unstable water level that made it difficult to manage. We began by safely draining the pond and transferring the plants and fish into a holding tank for the duration of the works.

During: Rebuilding the Pond from the Ground Up

We removed the old crazy paving and concrete, keeping the better slate pieces for reuse.

The client also requested additional power supply for pond lighting and pumps, so we installed outdoor-rated twin sockets for flexibility and safety.
