Building a Stronger Habitat Restoration Partner Network Across Devon and Cornwall
A good habitat project rarely depends on one trade or one profession. A wildlife pond may begin with a practical construction brief but still need ecological advice, tree work, planting or drainage input. A wetland or river project may involve hydrology, surveys, mapping, permissions, earthworks and long-term management.
That is why SAS Aquatics is strengthening its habitat restoration partner network across Devon, Cornwall and the wider South West. We want to build closer working relationships with people and organisations whose skills complement our own pond, wetland, water-management and practical habitat work.
Why a habitat restoration partner network matters
Some projects stall between assessment and delivery. A useful ecological report may identify opportunities but leave a landowner unsure how to turn them into practical work. At the other end, construction carried out without enough survey, design or environmental input can miss important constraints or opportunities.
The strongest projects connect those stages. Evidence informs a buildable plan; the practical team understands the ecological purpose; and the finished work has realistic planting, management and monitoring behind it. That is the approach we are developing through our wetland and rewilding services, planning and environmental support, and practical delivery work.
Who we would like to hear from
We are interested in hearing from experienced individuals, small teams, consultancies, contractors, suppliers and organisations working in areas such as:
Ecological assessment, habitat condition, BNG and protected-species surveys; freshwater, river, fisheries and wetland ecology.
Hydrology, drainage, topographical survey, GIS and mapping.
Arboricultural surveys, tree work and woodland management.
Pond, wetland, river and natural flood management design; earthworks, plant operation, groundworks, fencing, boardwalks and stonework.
Aquatic, wetland and native planting; invasive-species control and practical habitat management.
Planning, permitting, monitoring and grant support; specialist plants, materials, equipment or fabrication.
You do not need to cover everything. In fact, it is more useful to be clear about what you do well, where you work, the scale of project that suits you and where your limits lie.
What working together could look like
There is no single arrangement. Depending on the project, it could involve a defined subcontract package, a specialist survey or report, technical input to a design, a joint bid, referral work, or simply knowing who to call when a particular issue arises.
SAS Aquatics can act as the practical delivery partner within a wider ecological or land-management project. On other work, we may coordinate the overall pond, wetland or habitat package and bring in the specialist input needed to support it. Standards matter more than a long contact list
We are not trying to create an unfiltered directory. The useful part of a network is knowing who can genuinely help and matching the right person to the right project.
We value clear communication, appropriate insurance, relevant qualifications or licences, safe working, respect for ecological constraints and straightforward conversations about cost, capacity and uncertainty. Commercial terms and responsibilities would always be agreed for each project; joining the network does not guarantee work or create approved-contractor or employment status.
