Pond & Wetland Creation Delivery Partner | Wildlife & Rivers Trust Contractor Devon & Cornwall
Pond & Wetland Creation Delivery Partner for Charities, Councils & Trusts
Sas aquatics is a specialist pond and wetland creation contractor based on Dartmoor, working across Devon, Cornwall and the wider South West.
We partner with Wildlife Trusts, Rivers Trusts, local authorities, schools, community groups and NGOs to design and deliver funded habitat creation projects – from single wildlife ponds to landscape-scale pond networks and wetland restoration schemes.
If you’re developing a grant-funded nature, climate or rewilding project, we can act as your technical delivery partner: helping you scope, cost and deliver high-quality ponds and wetlands that stand up ecologically, practically and in your funder’s reporting.
Who this service is for
This service is specifically designed for organisations such as:
- Wildlife Trusts and nature charities
- Rivers Trusts and catchment partnerships
- Local authorities, AONBs and National Park Authorities
- Schools, academies and FE/HE institutions
- Community groups, parish and town councils
- Landscape-scale rewilding and nature recovery projects
If you need a reliable, specialist contractor for pond creation, wetland creation or broader habitat works in Devon and Cornwall, we’d like to be on your list.
What we do: specialist pond and wetland creation
We provide end-to-end support for freshwater and wetland habitat creation, including:
Pond creation and restoration
- Design and specification for wildlife ponds, farm ponds and naturalistic waterbodies
- Plastic-free and low-input designs using native plants and local materials wherever possible
- New pond construction, de-silting, reshaping and edge softening
- School and community pond restoration with safety and access designed-in
- Planting plans focused on native marginal and aquatic species
Wetland, scrape and seasonal pool creation
- Small wetland systems, scrapes and ephemeral pools for amphibians, waders and invertebrates
- Integrating natural flood management and water quality benefits where appropriate
- Sensitive groundworks and spoil management to protect existing habitats
- Reedbed and wet grassland establishment
Rewilding-led habitat works
- Habitat mosaics that combine ponds, wet grassland, scrub and woodland edges
- Small-scale hydrological tweaks (blocking grips/ditches, reprofiling) to reconnect water and land
- Follow-up establishment visits and light-touch habitat management
All work is delivered with an eye on long-term resilience, ease of future management and funder reporting requirements.
How partnership projects work
We know most charities and councils have strong community and engagement skills in-house, but not always the heavy plant, freshwater and wetland expertise. Our partnership model is simple:
- Early-stage input
- We join at concept stage to help shape pond and wetland elements of your project.
- We advise on site feasibility, hydrology, risk and realistic output targets.
- Bid support and costings
- We provide clear, itemised costings for pond and wetland creation packages that can be dropped straight into funding bids (e.g. National Lottery Heritage Fund, local authority climate/nature funds, FiPL, charitable trusts).
- We help you express the ecological case and outline a practical delivery timetable.
- Delivery as named contractor
- If the bid is successful, SAS Aquatics is written in as the pond and wetland creation contractor.
- We liaise with your project staff, landowners and stakeholders to programme works around ecology, access and seasons.
- Reporting and monitoring support
- Before/after photos and basic spatial data for your reports.
- Simple monitoring frameworks for amphibians, dragonflies and vegetation that volunteers or staff can use.
- Input to evaluation and legacy planning for future funding rounds.
You keep ownership of the project narrative, community engagement and fundraising; we make sure the ponds and wetlands are designed and built to a high standard.
Example project types we support
- Wildlife pond networks for landscape-scale nature recovery
- Farm pond and scrape creation as part of ELMS/SFI, Countryside Stewardship or FiPL projects
- Wetland creation within river catchment and natural flood management schemes
- School and college pond programmes linked to curriculum and wellbeing
- Urban and peri-urban wildlife pond creation in parks, churchyards and community spaces
- Habitat creation and enhancement within biodiversity net gain projects, working alongside ecologists and planners
If your project brief includes “pond creation”, “wetland creation”, “habitat creation contractor” or “nature-based solutions”, we can help you turn that into a deliverable work package.
Why partner with Sasaquatics?
- Regional focus
Based near Moretonhampstead, we operate primarily within 1.5 hours of Dartmoor – across Devon, Cornwall and into neighbouring counties for suitable projects. That local focus means realistic site visits, quick mobilisations and knowledge of local soils, hydrology and planning contexts. - Freshwater and pond specialists
We are not general landscapers who also do ponds. Our core expertise is ponds, wetlands and freshwater habitats, from small school ponds to complex naturalistic water systems. - Rewilding and low-intensity ethos
Designs prioritise native species, natural processes and low-maintenance systems. We aim for plastic-free, chemical-free, pump-free solutions wherever feasible. - Funding-aware delivery
We understand outputs, outcomes and milestones, and can tailor our work packages to match funder requirements and your internal project management systems. - Collaborative and transparent
We are happy to attend partnership meetings, talk directly with landowners and schools, and co-design practical volunteer days and training sessions around the ponds and wetlands we create.

Do you only work in Devon and Cornwall?
Our main pond and wetland creation work is within roughly 1.5 hours of Dartmoor (Devon and Cornwall). For high-impact or multi-site habitat creation projects elsewhere in the South West, we’re happy to discuss options.
Can you help with wetland creation as part of a wider river or catchment project?
Yes. We can support river and catchment-scale projects by creating offline ponds, scrapes and small wetlands that complement in-channel restoration, natural flood management and water quality work and are happy to work alongside other specialist consultants.
Can you design and build school wildlife ponds safely?
Yes. We offer a dedicated school pond package that covers risk assessment, design, construction and planting, plus simple guidance for teachers on safe use, curriculum links and basic monitoring.
Can you be named as a delivery partner in our funding applications?
That’s exactly how this service is designed to work. We provide technical input and costings at bid stage, and – if successful – Sasaquatics is named as the pond and wetland creation contractor within your project.
Do you work on biodiversity net gain and planning-related habitat creation?
We’re happy to deliver pond and wetland creation as part of biodiversity net gain and planning-related schemes, usually in collaboration with ecological consultancies who lead on metrics, licensing and planning conditions.
